The A4059 from the A470 North-South road across the top to Hirwaun. Bleak in winter but when the light shines and the clouds are at eye level, it comes into its own.

Ail Bont Hafren-Severn Crossing Low Tide
The original Severn Bridge. It replaced the ferry in 1966. There is photgraphic evidence that Bob Dylan paid a visit to the construction site, presumably as an outside onlooker. No-one knows why.

Big-Pit,-Blaenafon-3
The Engine Pit Level was driven around 1810 by hand due to dynamite being invented 50 years later. The site is now a museum of industrial heritage and well worth a visit. I remember the valleys of Cymru (Wales) being black with slag heaps everywhere. Even the rivers ran black. Now it's a green and pleasant land.

Bluebells-9298
Coed Cefn (The Back Wood) is dominated by a canopy of oak and beech and ground flora including bluebells and bramble. This ancient woodland site with an Iron Age hilltop fort alongside dry stone walls and hedge boundary incorporates a historical angle to happy meanderings. this picture was snatched in the ten minutes between heavy rain which started the night before and stopped long enough for me to get out of the car in hope before thundering down again for the rest of the day.

Capel-Gwladys-2466
The site of Capel Gwaldys was discovered at the beginning of the last Century, when a decorated and inscribed stone slab was uncovered. This is incised with a ring cross and probably dates from around the 8th to the 9th Century. The remains of an enclosure wall were also found. It is said that the site was founded by Gwladys, the mother of St. Cadoc. If true, this would date the foundation of the site to the early 6th Century.
It is today a beautiful mountain top surrounded by moorland and can be lonely and bleak if the weather isn't right

Casnewydd,-Newport,-Transporter-Bridge-1114
Newport Transporter Bridge crosses the River Usk in Casgwent (Newport). The idea came about in locations where it was seen as impractical to build long approach ramps that would be required to reach a high span to allow high masted shipping to pass, and in places where ferries are not easily able to cross.

In the 1960s Carreg Cennen Castle was acquired by the Morris family of Castell Farm, when Lord Cawdor's legal team made a mistake in the wording of the deeds and included the castle as part of the farm. Today, the castle remains privately owned by Margaret and Bernard Llewellyn, daughter and son in law of the late Mr. Gwilim Morris.
